Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general I have run Quicken Deluxe 98 for Windows in all of the following operating systems with no problems, so there shouldn't be any problem with Quicken 99: -Win98 -Win98SE -WinMe -Win2K -WinXP -(and if memory serves me correctly, I ran it on Win95 long ago). But as you may have noticed, Quicken updates the Time/Date stamp on any Quicken database file (ie a collection of one or more checking, savings, and/or credit card accounts) you open EACH TIME YOU OPEN IT, EVEN IF YOU DO NOT EDIT OR ALTER THE FILE IN ANY WAY.
This can result in confusion if you move the data files from one computer to another because a file with a newer date on one computer may not include editing already done on an earlier date on the other computer. One way around this might be to to network the computers and keep the current Quicken database active on just one computer, but install Quicken on both computers and set it up to use the same database on the one computer. NOTE: I doubt these older versions of Quicken are set up for networking and access by more than one user at a time, so they MIGHT interact destructively (to your data) if you were to try to open Quicken at the same time on both computers, or the Quicken program and/or one or both computers might crash.
But I don't think there would be any problem if you are careful to only open Quicken on one computer at a time.gdv 'Martin' wrote: Can anyone tell me whether I can install the 99 version of quicken on a computer running Windows XP Home edition? Thanks for any help. Archived from groups: microsoft.public.windowsxp.general I haven't noticed any computation errors BUT YER MAKIN' ME NERVOUS;-). But now that you've asked, it's got me thinkin' - Perhaps your're referring to the Y2K issue. I don't recall any patch or fix, though it seems like I downloaded Quicken 98 for FREE from the Quicken website (had purchased and used several earlier versions, going back to DOS), and I think they made it available FREE to help users deal with potential Y2k problems (MIGHT still be available?). If I recall correctly, Quicken 98 was the first version to be Y2K compliant. To use Quicken 98 for the year 2000 forward the user MUST set up Windows (and/or Quicken?) to use a 4 digit year format. If you don't, and if you use the default 'sort by date' in a Quicken check registry, it will treat dates from year 2000 forward as if from 1900 forward, which the user might realize, since the default only used a 2 digit year format.
This results in entries being shoved earlier in the Quicken checkbook register, before any 19xx entries. Obviously this would result in a running balance that might not appear correct, and any efforts to produce various reports would exclude the correct 2000+ dates. I recall creating a bit of a mess with this once when I set up a new computer and forgot to change to a 4 digit year format - had to edit or delete and re-import several entries imported before I noticed. Also, Quicken 98 (and I believe Quicken 99 and Quicken 2000) still only use the very simple.QIF format, so a lot of data available to download/import from financial institutions, plus a quite useful duplicate entry function, are not available in Quicken 98. A newer.QFX format started with Quicken 2001 and was further improved with Quicken 2002 and after.
As suggested by Carey Frisch, interested readers might want to check the Quicken (Intuit?) website. 'Mike Hall (MS-MVP)' wrote: Strange you should make the claim that it is ok in XP. Hello, I lost my 2003 Quicken Deluxe disk, and I need to install the program on my newer computer. All my data is stored on a thumb drive, but of course, won't open unless I have the program downloaded on the computer. What would be easiest and most cost effective? I've searched to see which newer versions are compatible with this older version, so I can just load it on my computer and open the file in it, but I get conflicting answers. No doubt, as soon as I buy a few disk, I'll find my old one. If you haven't already, you may want to review: I don't know how castrated the 'conversion' programs may be since their use is supposedly temporary, but you'll need to use them anyway to covert to a newer data file format if you don't locate your disk.
You can still pull they're updates at: The current version: Quicken Deluxe 2018 is available from Quicken.com for about $45 with 1-year of support and Online Services. If you care about the Support and Online Services, the best deal is typically available at Amazon (27-months for about $73). Helen, recently went through the same thing with my 70+ year old father.
He was on 2012, so not quite as old as your's, but same basic thing. So you can pick up a copy of basic Quicken for very cheap from a number of places. He bought a new one at Costco for $35 for Premier. It will still upgrade the file from Quicken versions even with the same age as your file, though you should probably make a copy of it someplace else just so you have it in case.:) He doesn't download anything either, but it had gotten to where 'the son' could no longer provide effective tech support because his version and mine looked nothing alike any longer! I don't know of any other programs these days that can read and extract ALL the data from a Quicken file.
MS Money used to do a pretty good job, but if you want your data you are either going to have to upgrade and install a new version, find someone that has Quicken than will open it for you and export everything, or find your old disk to reinstall it. We’ve compared the Deluxe version of Quicken 2002 with the standard version of Money 2003 in this review, as these products offer similar sets of features, although there’s a disparity of around £20 in price. Quicken 2002 remains a good-quality product, but it’s slowly slipping behind Money 2003 in terms of its features and online support. A number of Quicken’s existing features have been redesigned or extended, but there’s little that’s completely new in this version of the product. A Portfolio Analyser enabling you to assess all of your investment accounts in a single view is the most significant addition, but there are some clear improvements to existing features. For example, the arduous setup ‘interview’ has been streamlined - although at the cost of less step-by-step assistance for novices.
Features are grouped into seven ‘centres’ addressing topics such as banking, taxation and investing. These cover day-to-day tasks such as managing bill payments, as well as giving an overview of your general financial situation.
There’s also a Reports and Graphs Centre for referencing Quicken’s copious analysis tools. Intuit has formed an alliance with the to provide online information about new financial products. There’s a ‘Web’ button linking you directly to the site from within Quicken, but beyond this, there’s little of specific benefit to Intuit customers.
However, the Motley Fool is an excellent general resource for financial research. Technical support costs have been a long-standing bugbear for Quicken users, and this version of the product retains the same help charges as previous versions. The costly 75 pence per minute charge for phone support is still worth taking into account, particularly if you’re a first-time user. In addition to the technical support telephone line, there’s also a free support FAQ on Intuit’s Web site. However, at the time of writing - several months after the product’s release - there was still no Quicken 2002-specific FAQ on offer. Although there are some improved tools for online banking, only HSBC, Lloyds TSB and NatWest are directly supported within the product.
You can also import downloaded QIF files from other banks as an alternative, but this is a much more cumbersome process. As a part of our testing, we successfully imported two QIF files, and also converted a Quicken 2001 file with no problems. Top ZDNET Reviews. 8.0 As well as the Deluxe product, there’s also a Standard version of Quicken (£29.95 inc.
VAT) covering basic money management tasks such as tracking income and expenditure. However, it doesn’t include features like share price monitoring or budgeting. Intuit has also extended the range of Quicken products with this release to include a Deluxe & Business version (£69.95 inc. VAT), which is suitable for tracking both personal finances and (very) small business accounts within a single package. In the past, Quicken was the unchallenged leader in personal finance software. However, some lazy touches, such as the lack of online support for the current version of the product, suggest that it is slowly losing its grip to Microsoft’s rival Money package.
Even so, Quicken remains a functional and usable package that will continue to serve existing customers well. Publisher Description Quicken saves your financial information in a data file on your computer. As with other types of files, such as word-processing or spreadsheet files, you store this file in a folder on your hard disk.
Unlike most other programs, however, Quicken immediately saves your information as you work; you don’t need to save the file manually. As with all important data, you should still back up your Quicken file frequently. Within a single Quicken file, you can add many accounts to organize your financial information. You can add several accounts (such as checking, brokerage, and so on), or you can start with a single account (such as a checking account). You can also add Quicken accounts to track other aspects of your financial life, such as a home mortgage or a vehicle loan. You should set up all your Quicken accounts within a single Quicken file. That way, you can use Quicken to create reports that reflect your complete financial picture.
Initially, you may want to add only a checking or investment account. Later, you can add additional accounts to track more of your financial activities. Quicken is a free trial software application from the Accounting & Finance subcategory, part of the Business category. The app is currently available in English and it was last updated on 2009-10-15. The program can be installed on WinXP, Windows2003, Windows Media Center Edition 2005, Windows Vista Starter, Windows Vista Home Basic, Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Business, Windows Vista Enterprise, Windows Vista Ultimate, Windows Vista Home Basic x64, Windows Vista Home Premium x64, Windows Vista Business x64, Windows Vista Enterprise x64, Windows Vista Ultimate x64.
